Abundant Natural Resources

ProvincetownProvincetown is like nowhere else in the abundance of natural resources available to enjoy. More than half of Provincetown is made up of the National Seashore, abundant with animal and bird life and miles of trails to walk and bike ride. The National Seashore also offers numerous self-guided nature trails and holds special events during the season.

Since Provincetown is surrounded on three sides by the ocean, there are miles of beaches to enjoy, some proclaimed the “Best Beaches in the US.” Another special treat is taking a dune tour through the National Seashore to experience the vast beauty of the dune landscape and see the dune shacks built during the turn of the century, used by artists such as Eugene O’Neil and Harry Kemp.

The Stellwegan Banks in the ocean north of Cape Cod is home to several species of whales. Whale watching trips are a favorite activity for visitors and arrangements can be made with several whale watching boats at Provincetown Wharf. Provincetown is very lucky to have the internationally known Center for Coastal Studies located here. If you want to know more about whales and other coastal animals, Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies offers classes, tours, and volumes of information.

Bird watching on the Outer Cape is also world-known and is the home to over 250 different species of birds and waterfowl. In Provincetown, Beech Forest is a wonderful area for bird watching. The local Audubon Society in nearby Wellfleet can provide a wealth of information about bird watching in the Provincetown area.

So, come to Provincetown and watch our famous sunsets, the only place on the East Coast where you can watch the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean, and enjoy the abundance of breathtaking beauty and natural wonders.
